if you give a pig a pancakeIf you give a pig a pancake … oh my, the requests that follow one simple nice deed. She’ll want syrup, she’ll get sticky, she’ll need a bath; the tale goes on and on. There will be pianos and dancing and tree houses and wallpaper. But she’s such an adorable little piglet, who could refuse her many requests?

Just where was this fascinating book when my boys were little? Oh yes, it was published in 1998. They were ten and fourteen then. We’d graduated from picture books by then. Now that Mamaw Pat is reading picture books again, this one leaped right up to my Top 10 list, joining Laura Numeroff’s other book, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.

The duo of Laura Numeroff’s charming stories and Felicia Bond’s delightful illustrations is a dynamic combination ensuring books that young and old will adore.

  1. I love the whole “If you give a (animal) a (something)” books! Anthropomorphizing animals is just so interesting. You have to wonder, what kind of message are they trying to send out? Is there some symbolism because of the specific animal? I actually think that “Give a Pig a Pancake” is genius. Alliteration all the way!
